Helping Large Importing Client Navigate Supply Chain Uncertainty

Supply Chain Issues - Staffing Agency

Summary:

Learn how All Purpose Staffing helped a large importing client navigate supply chain uncertainty without committing to placing permanent employees, the expense of adding additional equipment or the costs of excessive overtime hours.

Challenge:

In the summer of 2021 when the global economy was starting to reopen and still strained supply chains were starting to deliver and overwhelm warehouse operations with delivery of backordered supply, our client needed help on ideas on how to deal with the seasonal rush without adding equipment.

Recommendations:

We created the blueprint for a part-time second shift utilizing people who were already working a full-time job elsewhere in the same role using the same equipment as our client. By targeting these employees, we knew we would limit the amount of training needed and have more reliable and dedicated employees as they were already demonstrating their commitment to working by virtue of their full-time job (remember at this time it was challenging to compete with the government programs designed to keep people home).

Results:

Reduction in Labor Costs*

We were able to create a reliable and experienced part-time shift which produced the high-volume results the client needed. It was so popular with our employees they brought co-workers in from their full-time jobs making the fulfillment of the roles that much easier.

The program was such a success it has become a regular part our clients seasonal surge (with most of the same team returning) and helped them avoid the need to spend for the additional five pieces of equipment they would have needed to expand their first shift operation. Another plus was the ability to handle the surge without the expense of an increase in overtime hours.

*The addition of APS staff members to this project saved the client a total of $53,750 in combined reduction of equipment costs and labor costs over the 20 weeks the program was in effect.
